im going to Kenya,east africa for school in this fall semester and I want to get my hair braided while im there. My cousins that live there want to do it and now im really wanting to do it. I want to come back with hair like how David Beckham used to have http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39...
but my hair is really light blond. Will it look odd to have cornrows when my hair is lighter than my skin? Can I wash my hair with cornrows, go swimming,surfing,e.t.c?

u can swim in them, wash them and even go surfing in them. with time they will loosen up a bit and u'll have a few fly aways but u can spray them and put them in place so that they look neat. dont worry about ur hair being light. it will look great

If it were me I wouldnt do it, bt if you want to, why not just get cornrows done and see how you like them. You can always take them out, it's not like they are dread locks or something.

i think go for it you can stil wash and swim wit cornrows in your hair just shampoo gently so you don't cause them to mess up from a cosmetologist

Oh wow! tell me if this is a conicidence. but my man is also going to kenya for studying, at the univ of nairobi. and he too is getting cornrows!! lolz.. i think its fine, i personally think cornrows are really cool, and have gotten them myself before. my man has thicker darker hair, not the african hair but still is not fully grown like it should.. he is getting them before he is goes there. and he decided if he finds a better person there to do it, he'll get it done again, since they're most likely better at doing it. ok so when u go there u should go ahead and get it, see if u like it and keep it if u do. if not then u can always take em out.
just keep in mind u gotta take care of them, u can go in the water with them, just make sure u can like keep them outta getting frizzy, so perhaps some braid oil i feel is always best, than gel or other hair spray type of products because they break the hair. when u sleep put on some silk clothe tie it like a bandana, or a do rag, if u cant find those then i guess it is ok to use just a regular bandana or some clothe around ur hair when u sleep so they stay in place. other than that just keep dabbing with hair oil so they stay in place, maybe u can buy hair serum for the frizz. and if u wanna get them re done wait a week before u get em done again. cuz u dont wannna ruin ur hair lines. other than that make sure they arent too tight, a little loser ones last longer, and ahead warning at first when u get them they may feel quite weird but u'll get used to them and they'll be fine. anyways. id say dont care about nobody just get em, if u dont like it just take em out. = )
