No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Why are these kids especially the young boys wearing their hair all goofy etc. My son's hair looked totally ridulous to me the other day...way too long around well, his entire head so, I made him cut it. I don't want to go around with my kid looking like we can't afford a haircut.

Are any of you other parents dealing with this too and think it's crazy?

Man o' man, this makes me feel old but really, the new styles are looking crazy these days. Heck I told my son the new hair styles make the 80's doos look way cooler.

Good for you for putting your foot down! Kids these days need to know that their parents care for them and the way they look/behave. We as parents shouldn't be embarrassed to be seen with our teens in public!

More parents need to grow up and stop acting like their kids' friends and start showing these kids we are the boss!

OMG, bad mom award, bad mom award!!! u have to let kids be themselves, and if they really like it, u cant push them into liking something else. let them express themselves

i feel ya ma

Lol, I'm not a parent yet but I agree with what you're saying. I really don't see how anyone can think that looks "cool". Boys hair really shouldn't be longer than mine, nor should their pants be tighter.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

aaaahhh isn't that what our parents said when we were kids in the 80s? ;-)

I think he's just trying to fit in with his peers. As long as he's not cutting himself (which kids in that set are into), I wouldn't worry too much.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Really? I think emo haircuts look a little like the teased out messy hair styles that Motley Crue and Poison fans used to wear back in the 80s.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

how would you have felt if your parents forced you to do what they liked? people have different tastes and different opinions, let them expand on it.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I am 16.. and just a normal girl next door .. i think its ridiculous the tiiiightest pants ever and stuf.. but my step dads brother who is 14 is really into that.. and my step gramma is like 40 something.. she supports anything her kids do .. she would never stop anyone from expressing themselves.. shes kinda a hippy

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

sorry i'm only 16, but i do NOT like the emo look either..

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I think that it's just the trend now and you should let him go with it. We all have our styles, to some their rediculous but it's their generation. Heck when I was in school the cool thing was puffy bangs and wow how insane does that look now....yuck lol

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

You did the right thing. Keep up the good work.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I have the opposite my son shaves his hair off and weares his trousers around his backside Welcome to the joys of parent hood LOL

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Well, unfortunately, there isn't really an "answer" for this. I think they believe that longer hair makes them look darker and more mysterious, or something.

You're not alone in thinking that look is goofy...

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

It's not just the hair, Its the boys who wear the skinny jeans. WTF is that? Thank God my kids are still young enough to not give in to fads.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Every generation has its goofy trends... and I am sorry, but a lot of this is influenced by the 80's styles. The 80's were just as bad, just not as dark. If fashion is as far as they are taking it, I am okay with it. If they start to become depressed or cut themselves, then I'm not.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

there was nothing cool about the mullet. The clothes that these kids are wearing are really weird. Some of the hair styles are OK. I guess we are just becoming our parents. They too thought that the stuff we thought was cool was weird too.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

ya, i no.. i may be 14, but my dad is like the exact same way..

about my brother,

and for Kyle, my brother,

my dad like always makes Kyle get his hair cut,

and we go to the same high skool,

and i actually walk by and hear ppl make fun of my brother,

it pisses me off so much,

but what can a little freshman do about it? right?

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I'm a "kid" but I think I can help you. "Emo" isn't a style really, emos are people who are depressed basically and wear all black and have a bit of a punk-gothicy look to them. Kids think of it differently and think of it as being "cool" I think its kind of wierd myself. Your son is giong through a phase pretty much. When he matures a bit more he'll grow out of it. And also, a lot of girls like guys with the "emo" look. So maybe he might be trying to get a girl or something. I hope I helped!

Good Luck!

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

i agree with you and im a kid lol i hate the emo look and the 80s styles did look better...i watch i love the 80s all the time

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

It's just a phase. We all went through different phases growing up that our parents weren't thrilled about. It's just hair. I would only worry if drugs or alcohol were involved. My daughter went through what we call "The Hot Topic" look (like the store). She wore weird clothes and dark eye makeup for about a year or so. However, she was NOT using drugs or having sex, so I didn't say too much about it. Now she's a college freshman and just laughs when she looks at those old pictures of her! I'm glad that I didn't overreact because she grew out of the silly phase by herself. Good luck!

I miss the 80's! lol can't you tell?? But I would not want my son to have a cut like that! Those choppy, peicey, teased cuts look 80's though...

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I have to think about my teenage years. Boys had hairstyles over their eyes and bleached blond. Everytime I cuss at a car with loud speakers I remember scavanger pipes (does anyone remember scavanger pipes?) We would buy a perfectly good sweatshirt and rip the sleeves off. I don't like a lot of things I see, but I'd rather have that than the force fed clean cut American kid.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

LOL!!!! I'm sorry to laugh. I hear what you're saying and I feel your frustration.

I went through this two years ago with my son (he's now 17.) After he brought home his school pictures he discovered (to my delight) that he looked like a human version of Millhouse on the Simpsons! LOL!!!! He came home and begged me for a hair cut. Since then he's been sporting a look similar to flat top. He has been complimented on the look (it looks great on him) and the girls love him!

I'm sure that he will out grow it. Just hang in there. Remember that teens rebel...I know I did.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Yes, I am going through the same thing...I dislike it very much too: however; most of our parents let us go through the same thing and for the most part we are OK..LOL (since you mentioned the 80's) I hate the 80's mullet or glam rock look for boys and the girls in the 80's looked ridicules!!!!!

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I couldnt agree more and I'm only 27. I hate the look with the long bangs pushed over their eyes. I cant wait until this emo fad is over. Everywhere in the malls they all cut their hair like this. What girl wants an "emo" guy anyway? Even as teen I wanted a man, not some emotional fruitcake!

Ewww and what about those tight *** jeans!!! Hahaha one day theyre going to look back and say "what the F was I thinking!"

PS: to =^,,^= 90s grunge was 100x cooler than this emo homosexual thing going on these days. We were cool, smoked pot, drank. We werent posers like these emo's of today.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Well it's only a style and I understand your point but you have to think back when you were a kid as well. In you opinion your style looked cool, but in you parents mind they probably did not like it.

I know how you feel, yes your son should get a hair cut, and yes he should be able to be who he is at the same time. Pick your battles, if you make a big deal of it, he will only rebel. Good Luck and do what is right but let him be and just be there to make good judgments like a hair cut.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Let kid's be themselves. It's quite popular. I'm not an adult but you should let your kid be himself not someone you want him to be.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

I relay think ppl need to let there kids have some say in the way they look...now I am not saying let them go around piercing there face all on there own although back in the day I had a friend that did this IN SCHOOL none the less but what did crazy hair ever hurt!

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Your poor son....

You probably ruined his life by making him get a haircut.

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

that poor baby

No offense, kids but this Q is for the Adults. What's up with this new Emo look?

Emo is not a good thing. I can do without the melodrama and self-pity. Now, it could be that he is trying the Goth look...which I also don't like...it's that devil thing, kinda creepy. I put my foot down with my girls...it ain't happening here and make-up doesn't wash off very easily.
