I almost never tip my hairdresser. I just get a haircut! Besides, they usually do a poor job, and take too long, and insist on talking about their kids. I hate getting a haircut! It's not fun! I know that you SHOULD tip a hairdresser, but c'mon, they're just cutting hair! If they were doing something horrible with chemicals with MY hair, then I'd tip well. But I just get the split ends snipped off and I never go to the same place again because they always do other than what I ask them to do. Many of them are even snarky about how I look. Advice?

I pay with my credit card and the signature slip has a spot for the tip just like at a restaurant. I have never seen a tip jar at a salon.

It sounds like you only pay $8 for a cut anyway. If you want good service, go to a nice salon and pay $40-$85.

you should always tip your hairdresser. hairdressers are poorly paid as it is. tips are how they survive! if theres no tip jar, just when you get your change (or if you already have change in hand), go and give it to her. that's what i always do.

When you are paying out, just ask the cashier to hand your hairdresser his/her tip and you can leave. Any other way might seem rude.

OF COURSE you should TIP your hairdresser! You tip your bloody bartender, don't you? 15% is nice, and 20% if you think it was a good job.

go to a nice hair salon and spend a little extra money than usual. most of the time you get what you pay for. when you shell out a little extra money you probably won't regret it. and tip the hair dresser they are spending one on one time with you. if you are unhappy tell them so, and then tell them exactly what you want, they aren't mind readers.

go to a less sketchy salon, then they will probably not be so strange, and if you want to tip them, do it when you go to pay, give it to the girl working the register, be like can you give this to _______for me. or if your doing it on a credit card, can you add x amount as a tip for________.

It's very rude not to tip you hairdresser. They mainly work for tips. You should tip at least 20 %. How would you feel not to be given a tip? They work hard and usually don't get paid well. Simply hand the money to her and say keep the change. Or add it to the bill if you use a credit card. I don't know where you live but you can usually get a good haircut at a nice salon.

Tipping your hairdresser isn't the worst thing you could do, as long as the rest of your hairdressing etiquette is OK :). Make sure you arrive on time and give a detailed description of exactly what you want.REMEMBER when your hair is wet it becomes longer! So consider how long it is actually going to be once it gets cut. If you're not into chatting with them ( personally im not a big fan of it) just take a magazine. I'm sure they won't mind. You're the customer after all! If you do get a haircut you like then it's a good idea to tip them, let them know they're doing something right.

Usually you can leave it at the reception desks. Most salons keep tip envelopes for their sylists. You should always tip unless the cut is nowhere near what you asked for.

If you want to go to a stylist, take a picture of what you want to show the stylist. Be very clear that you want your hair to look exactly like the picture. They're not mind readers, and clients quite often don't express themselves very well.

If you really want to get consistently good haircuts, you need to stick with one stylist for a while. They need to get accustomed to how your hair grows.

The other solution is to buy a pair of scissors and just do it yourself. You obviously think that no talent is required to achieve the cut you want.
